P4P-003: Doug Nordman

March 1st, 2019

Want to be financially independent by age 41? How about on a military income? If you think that sounds impossible, listen to this interview with Doug Nordman from Oahu, Hawaii! Doug and his wife have been financially independent (and retired "early") since before "FIRE" was a cool movement! Yes, he's a real estate investor, but that's not his source of retirement income. More importantly, he is a sound financial guy with real expertise in how military members might plan ahead to REALLY retire when they leave the military after 20 years.  Other military veterans would do well to listen to a few of Doug's sound advice nuggets and be sure to check out his book (either buy from Amazon or check out of one of 100+ libraries it's located in throughout country) - The Military Guide to Financial Independence and Retirement.  Also listen to some great tips on buying (or not buying) a home at your duty station and shark risks for surfers!

P4P-005: Rich Carey

March 25th, 2019

Rich owns 20 rental homes free and clear and he did it on a military salary! This episode is filled with some great advice from Air Force member (Investor/Blogger/etc.) Rich Carey, who will retire financially independent in 2020 after turning from Wall Street to service for his country. Rich shocked me when he said, "military members should NEVER buy a house at their duty station" (with one caveat).  Does he really think owning a home free and clear is the best way to go?  What does he think about single-family versus multi-units? What's his advice if you're broke with no credit? What's his advice if you have $100K to invest? How the heck does he manage remotely?

P4P-006: Steve Magennis

Those lessons, coupled with a life of hard work and continued financial education have helped put him and his family on a path to financial independence. Tune in to learn how he and his wife got started in real estate, his “multi-bucket” balanced strategy, and some hard landlord lessons learned. This episode is especially useful to any military member or veteran thinking about starting out in single-family rentals.

P4P-007: Brian Burke

May 19th, 2019

There's a reason nationally-recognized real estate expert Brian Burke was guest #3 on the hugely popular BiggerPockets podcast over six years ago, and has been a guest twice since then - he is an amazing guest with incredible insights based on many years of real estate investing experience! I met Brian through my interest in A Hero's Home, which is a non-profit group that will source, rehab and then donate a single family home to a deserving military serviceman, servicewoman or first-responder's family. The first property will be in the Memphis, TN market and the hope is to keep it going through generous donations of time and money.

Brian spent 14 years as a policeman, fireman, and EMT - listen to the incredible story of how he bought his first home/flip with no money down and how a decade later, he raised his first $500K for single-family "flip" investments! Listening to Brian is like going to an expensive seminar or clinic but without paying the steep entry fee!

P4P-008: David Pere

May 27th, 2019

The book Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki has positively affected many people's lives - but how many people closed a multi-unit property within three months after reading (or hearing) it? Well, I know one - U.S. Marine David Pere!

David is CEO of From Military to Millionaire, a real estate investing company that he runs along with his wife, Kimberly. He is also an active duty Marine and a Realtor...AND blogger, real estate investor, educator, and podcast host. While serving as a recruiter in the Midwest, David listened to the audiobook version of Rich Dad, Poor Dad and the rest is history. After taking immediate action, he quickly started building passive income and soon began teaching personal finance and real estate investing to other service members and the working class!
