How many of us can say we graduated from college, served our country, managed dozens of properties, and own over 30 units yourself all before age 28? Not many. Spend a half hour with me and Jonathan Child, Army National Guard Veteran and full-time real estate investor.
Jon is a well-spoken, well-read, level-headed, highly optimistic and very polite person – generally a joy to converse with. He also happens to be smart and straightforward when it comes to advising young people – or any people – on pragmatic ways to invest in and think about real estate.
Jon has been a full time real estate investor for 5 years. Following his graduation from the University of New Hampshire, he acquired and repositioned a foreclosed duplex and has turned that success into the portfolio he owns and operates today. Jon is primarily focused on deal flow and our acquisition and asset management. When not working, he is typically found biking, reading, or surfing.

Wednesday Aug 14, 2019
Colby Bowers and VPIG - the real deal! There is no better friend to military veterans than Colby and his partners. This interview I did with him will show you why. Colby is a full time real estate investor and co-founder of Veteran Pride Investment Group LLC. He has been investing in real estate since 2001 and understands a great investment deal when he sees one. He has managed numerous fix and flips, a portfolio of single family rentals as well as been a private's note lender. Colby has a passion for helping people to safely invest in real estate. He loves real estate because of the "controllability" of your inputs and outputs, risk aversion, and tax incentives. He also saved 23 years of distinguished military service as a senior executive managing facilities and projects in multiple states, multi-million dollar budgets, and hundreds of enlisted Air Force Members. As a wounded warrior, he has a passion for giving back to his community by helping homeless and struggling veterans and supporting first responders.

Sunday Aug 04, 2019
Sunday Aug 04, 2019
Joseph Albano is an Army veteran, retired Financial sales & marketing professional, retired business owner, former Real Estate Broker and investor (in Florida). Joe is a graduate of West Point, where he was a three-year letterman in football and team MVP as selected by his peers in 1970. This successful father and grandfather was an amazing and modest guest, who reluctantly agreed to share his story and knowledge.
Listen as Joe expertly breaks down the conservative approach he used to buy, fix, and flip properties in the Sarasota, FL area following his retirement from Cantor-Fitzgerald (World Trade Center in NYC) eight months before the attacks of 9/11/2001, which had a profound personal impact on Joe. No nonsense interview filled with straightforward tips, followed by a few fun facts when I got Joe to open up about his favorite college football memories!

P4P-008: David Pere

The book Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki has positively affected many people's lives - but how many people closed a multi-unit property within three months after reading (or hearing) it? Well, I know one - U.S. Marine David Pere!
David is CEO of From Military to Millionaire, a real estate investing company that he runs along with his wife, Kimberly. He is also an active duty Marine and a Realtor...AND blogger, real estate investor, educator, and podcast host. While serving as a recruiter in the Midwest, David listened to the audiobook version of Rich Dad, Poor Dad and the rest is history. After taking immediate action, he quickly started building passive income and soon began teaching personal finance and real estate investing to other service members and the working class!

P4P-007: Brian Burke
Sunday May 19, 2019
Sunday May 19, 2019
There's a reason nationally-recognized real estate expert Brian Burke was guest #3 on the hugely popular BiggerPockets podcast over six years ago, and has been a guest twice since then - he is an amazing guest with incredible insights based on many years of real estate investing experience! I met Brian through my interest in A Hero's Home, which is a non-profit group that will source, rehab and then donate a single family home to a deserving military serviceman, servicewoman or first-responder's family. The first property will be in the Memphis, TN market and the hope is to keep it going through generous donations of time and money.
Brian spent 14 years as a policeman, fireman, and EMT - listen to the incredible story of how he bought his first home/flip with no money down and how a decade later, he raised his first $500K for single-family "flip" investments! Listening to Brian is like going to an expensive seminar or clinic but without paying the steep entry fee!

Saturday May 11, 2019
Saturday May 11, 2019
LTC Steve Magennis learned the power of saving from his grandfather, who lived through the Great Depression. Those lessons, coupled with a life of hard work and continued financial education have helped put him and his family on a path to financial independence. Tune in to learn how he and his wife got started in real estate, his “multi-bucket” balanced strategy, and some hard landlord lessons learned. This episode is especially useful to any military member or veteran thinking about starting out in single-family rentals.
